IPB because it has more of a "site" feel instead of a "forum" feel. I prefer the site feel.

I like phpbb because it seems to me that that is more lighter, i mean phpbb is loading quicker and that is better for the people that don't have faster internet connections .

For a free forum, I personally like SMF or MyBB more because phpBB has lots of security risks. VBulletin is a good forum software for paid ones, but it's kind of expensive compared to IPB.

I like smf the most but I use fireboard on my site. Fireboard is a joomla componant and fits in nicely with the rest of my site. If you want to see it.

My favorite forum software is phpBB. PhpBB is a high powered, fully scalable, and highly customizable Open Source bulletin board package (quote taken right from their web site). I found phpBB easy to install, stable and you can't argue with the price, it's free! There is a very active user community and it's easy to find add ons and customizations.
Just try it out on this host : free forum |

I have owned a forum since 2000 and I've gone through different types of scripts before settling with phpBB. I started with version 2.0.8 back in 2004 and have continued to upgrade each time. I'm noww at 3.0.1 and I love it. I truly believe that owning a phpBB helped me learn more PHP than I would have otherwise. I've written my own complex MODs and such that I'm really proud of.
To me, it has the best features (that I'm looking for anyway), it's fast, and the styles are the easiest to create and manage. |
