My acer laptop was working fine last night. This morning when i tried powering up, the light came on, but the screen won't come on.
I tried connecting a CRT monitor to it..the same thing happens...i tried changing the memory and hard drive...same problem

Anyone has an idea of what may be the problem?

Does it make any noise? Hard drive activity?

If it doesn't, it could be the DC power socket thats on the motherboard thats jigged.

It's either

a. Motherboard half gone
b. Video card gone
c. Power supply gone

I suggest keep trying to boot it up. If it's been on for a month, give it some time to cool, then try again

True... Something unusual is definitly going on with your laptop... I had similar problem with my P1 laptop a long time ago. HDD was half dead, and I couldn't start my laptop every time... Keep trying... But have on your mind this:

Hi! Did you solve your acer problem? I am having the same problem as you describe. The lights come on but then nothing happens. Nothing ever shows on the screen, and there is only a couple of seconds startup activity before it goes totally silent. I suspect the video card is gone. Did you come to another conclusion?

I have a Acer Inspiron laptop the problem is this chaps there is a really small bit on the motherboard if that little thing moves just a tiny bit from the spot its supposed to be on the comp won't come on EVER!

The object is grey/black in colour and is approx. 2 or 3mm in size (looks like a tiny rectangle) it is directly underneath the RAM if you lost it your screwed and have to call Acer for them to fix it (which means they will just chuck that small thing back in the spot).

I know this sounds stupid .. trust me i know but after numerous trial and errors to rectify the problem i noticed this small object which was right inbetween two small holes but was a bit out of position i knocked it back on the spot between them and done comp turned back on with no worries.

I had the same problem, hold the power button down for like 10 seconds and it should come back on. My problem was related to the on button though.

Acers are a pain! I have one too. A friend of mine once said, "acer's view is 'you actually want to put software on that computer?' ".
LOL
