Well, I was going to make this topic about Same-Sex Marriage, but the opposition thereof seems to always point towards other things eventually. Until then, this topic is officially about the Same-Sex Marriage only.

AS A NOTE: Just because someone argues for, doesn't mean they're gay. It's perfectly okay to fight for a right you never plan to exercise.

---------------------------------

Same-Sex marriage should be legal because God and Christian Values should not come into play with the Laws of a Free Nation. That doesn't mean we should Break God's laws, but merely to not force them down other people's throat by law. Once this factor is taken out of the picture, there is no legitimate argument against it.

QUOTE(Death Dark @ Apr 1 2008, 10:38 PM) *
The bible says, "A man shall not lie with a man as he lies with a woman, for it is an abomination."

The bible also says:

"For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother. His blood shall be upon him." (Leviticus 20:9)
So let us begin stoning all those teenagers who curse and disrespect their parents.

"If a man lies with a woman during her sickness and uncovers her nakedness, he has discovered her flow, and she has uncovered the flow of her blood. Both of them shall be cut off from her people." (Leviticus 20:18)
Let's start deporting all the men who have slept with a woman while she was on her period.

"Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard." (Leviticus 19:27)
Have you ever cut your hair or shaved? Oopsies, you're going to hell!

"...and the swine, though it divides the hoof, having cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud, is unclean to you." (Leviticus 11:7)
Anyone out there eat bacon? You are an abomination to the lord.

"...do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. Do not wear material woven of two kinds of material." (Leviticus 19:19)
So I guess all those who had Victory gardens in the 40s are burning in hell right now. And if you've ever worn polyester, well, you'll join them soon!

"But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you." (Leviticus 11:10)
I guess Red Lobster is the ultimate abomination then.

Oh, grand, Christian bashing on the Christian that was for the gay marriage. Smooth.

I'm glad you're so overtly informed to "find" all of that scripture. However, that law served two purposes: show you that you were not God, and to give rules so that a tribe wandering the desert could survive.

Jesus came as a way to liberate the world from Levitical Law.

Actually, I was thinking something different:

The anti-gay marriage people argue for "preserving the sanctity of marriage." However, it was straight people that ruined it in the first place (see "Hollywood"). I say that to preserve the sanctity of marriage, outlaw divorces. Make people think twice before getting married.

Hmm, think i'm gonna kinda disagree w everyone on here, but i believe gay marriage is just wrong. I suppose i believe the whole idea of marriage is that you are declaring before God that you love this person and that you want to marry them and seeking God's permission and blessing. That's what i believe is the whole history of marriage in most of the main world religions, not just Christianity. So for me, marrying someone of the same sex is like throwing these commands into God's face.

As to the other commands given, well yes, there are loads and loads of commands in leviticus, most of which, when broken, involved some sort of sacrifice being done to ask for forgiveness. That was the biblical Jewish way. However, the whole idea of Christianity is that Jesus died as the ultimate sacrifice, on behalf of everyones sin, so what we are now forgiven for our sins if we believe this, no more sacrificing of the lambs thank goodness!!

Of course, to God, a sin is a sin and we all sin, so people who r gay should not be judged any differently to anyone else - let he who is without sin cast the first stone and all that!

But as for gay marriages, they do just seem to completely go against the idea of marriage to me. In the UK we have civil partnerships which are a bit different to marriage and are ok i guess.

Though i suppose, to really answer this question, it'd be good to know what people's idea of marriage actually is!!!

Thats the worst idea ever.... there just needs to be more laws/booklets/info on the subject so people truly know what marriage is... that seems like the only reasonable way. Its a tough subject really.

It's a harsh idea, but it would definetly make people think twice.

Personally, though, I'd rather it just be a lot more difficult under most circumstances. "Irreconcilable Differences" should no longer be an option.

Marriage should be a personal thing.

The government has no business regulating such things.

It favors religious ideology.

Any consenting adult should be allowed to marry who they want, regardless of gender.

Though a Marriage license is something you get from the state, ergo they can regulate who gets them.
