At least it is worthy to try. But whether using it for the first OS for your PC, that's depending on you.

I would recommend it for surfing the web since most viruses won't effect it. Other then that it isn't as good as you might think

in my opinion its worth it but moving from windows to linux isnt easy and itll take time and effort to get used to things.
i mean i love linux but my main computer still has windows xp dualbooted with linux. linux is actually more powerful and useful then people think.it is very under appreciated. it can do loads of stuff. its just that people think just cause most of it isn't user friendly that it cant do anything. you see the thing is most developers and programmers for linux dont get payed for their work so alot of the time they dont add the extra user friendly-ness or easy-ness simply becuase they dont need it. but that doesnt make it all useless. so like i said its worth it in my opinion. but if you dont like it thats ok thats just two different opinions.but you should atleast try it. |

Personally, I prefer Linux. However, since there are a lot of programs (games, for instance) that are made for Windows, you can lose out. Some can run in Wine; others, well, can't.
So, if you love Windows games and can't live without them, Linux would be a bad choice. If you need programs that aren't open-source ... it can be a problem, too. If Microsoft offered to show its code (which it wouldn't), we wouldn't have Windows/Linux issues. So try it, see what you think (live CDs <3), and maybe tell us all what you think. Oh, and Linux is NOT Windows is a good article - although I do admit that I mostly skimmed through it. -guilty- -------------------- Activism is good. Really.

Yeah, the best versions of linux are (for me) Suse and Red hat The worst one I tryed is called Ubuntu, stay away. Huh, i tried linux couple of times. At first i had trouble with installing graphic card. After i figure out that, i was faced with lot of other things. Honesly everything is different then windows. I mean, some things are same on the first look but like someone said before, it takes time and time to get use to it. Im planing to buy notebook and i will try to install linux there like secondary system and to take some time to learn it. But it is hard to say good bye to photoshop, office, and things like that. |

Linux distros like Ubuntu can send you live CDs so you can decide whether it's worth it before installing. That's what I did and I soon had it installed for real

I wonder what is wrong with Ubuntu?
I used Kubuntu (one of the options in the ubuntu ) installation packages. You should give it a shot. It is very cool. It might take you a couple of days to navigate around but at the end you have a wonderful OS which is very safe and secure. You can use Ubuntu whenever u want to surf net. Now here is the interesting thing. Ubuntu installs on top of windows like any other program. and if you dont like it uninstall it. No hassle at all. |

that's not true on several counts!
ubuntu can install BESIDE windows just like any other linux distro. and it is not all that easy to uninstall it. you have to be careful or you'll mess up your booting and be stuck! -------------------- |

In my opinion, if you are not completly brainwashed by Windows and unable to think if a button isn't at the same place, well then you should have no problems using Linux.
Well, that is, if you choose a distro that isn't Guru-only. But if you take for example, Ubuntu, (that's what I'm using) then you should have no problems. That is, if you mostly use standard applications (like an office suit, internet browser, ... ) If you bought some expensive licenses for expert programms, it might be more difficult to get it running, since they are not natively for linux. But if you are open to new things, you'll get to learn a lot of free programs who can actually do the same or better then your old ones :-) |
