Ever wanted to have a Domain name that isn't .com, .org, .co.uk etc, you will be able to soon as ICANN (the internet regulator) is going to be allowing these new names soon.

Will this change the internet? Domain squatting will get worse - and there will probably be bidding wars for good names.

hmm, that's interesting.
I think that domain squatting will actually lessen if everything the article says is true.
They said that domains would become much more expensive, so it won't be so cheap to buy a domain just to see if you like it smile.gif

Does anyone see lawsuits for registrants of .sony domains? Will ICANN block domains ending in numbers (otherwise someone could reg an IP address)?

hmm, those are some good questions. I'm sure ICANN will have many specifications about what is allowed.
As to the .sony and so on, I'm sure that you CAN register it, but Sony might make you give it up smile.gif

Interesting.

All the domain hoarders holding onto their precious gems must be terrified. Hehe.

you can not have www.leyton.cnn.com domain because it is a sub-domain of an existing domain cnn.com...

i don't think this is possible, it would create a haus. BUT if involves a lot of money it could be done. The only benefit of this is the registrated marks like coca-cola , pepsi , sony , to have a domain easyest to find.
How will it be to type just google insted of google.com

The company's will probably will just sue the shit out of you if you do. excl.gif biggrin.gif Who knows though there are already websites that will give you .gov domains.
