Every time I restart, it almost loads and then crashes. Any idea why?

Sounds to me like a corrupted install of Windows. Fish out your Windows install disk, and try to repair the install. If that doesn't work, you may have to format and start from scratch.

then click on repair windows...

sometimes Windows XP can't reboot reliablely. Don't know why ?
