What is your favorite free CMS and why?

I use PHP-Nuke for most of my online CMS sites. It's easy to use, customizable, has lots of templates and CAN BE secure if you keep up with updates and follow some simple security standards. I also normally put in an "anti-hacker" mod if it's going to be a higher profile site.

Hi all,
I'm very new to the website design/programming game. I'm creating a travel site that will eventually contain a lot of data/information, and I'm wondering if a CMS is the way to go.
So far, I've just been having a go at the design with Dreamweaver, but I'm open to anything that will make life easier in the long run.
If the CMS is the way to go, which one is best? (I know there are different opinions on this, but which might be best for me - easy to use and a large user base with good support?)
I'm mostly looking at Joomla, Drupal, and Mambo...
Thanks! smile.gif

I remember needing a CMS at some point. From what I researched, phpWCMS seemed like a fairly good one to use. It's in your Fantastico

Thanks for the recommend, but I decided to go with Joomla! since it has such an active user base and lots of great features/extensions/templates out there.
Give it a look, it's pretty cool!

Wordpress is nice, so is Cutenews for custom templates, I use cutenews personally, it works from a text file.

I made a thread in the other forum, I didnt see this one.

Jalooma is okay, I havent used it myself but from what I read it's alright.

If you want a REAL website about CMSes http://www.opensourcecms.com/ is a good one.

You should first consider the nature of your site and start asking questions like,

CONTENT

Does it have dynamic content like blogs? news? forums?

Are you accepting members?

Or is it a presentation of a certain info?

USERS

Is it for people in all walks of life?

For a small group or an organization?

There are those heavy duty CMS that may not be suitable for you so you can go for the lighter ones. However, the bottom line still is, are you having fun with the script?
