Interesting post...
Anyway, Yes, they are illegal, unless you own the game or have permission from the game creator to use it as a rom. |

hahah what is the deal with that post man. They ain't always illegal, some of the games are now legal to play in the public domain, games like mario etc are definately illegal, but random ones by small publishing companies can be played for free The quote below is about the legal status for dos roms, in the end all roms are illegal if they are not released as freeware or public domain. QUOTE Wikipedia: "Abandonware is computer software which is no longer being sold or supported by its copyright holder. Alternately, the term is also used for software which is still available, but on which further support and development has been deliberately discontinued." Since the software is no longer sold or supported, the copyright holders are not directly harmed in any way. This is why abandonware sites are, for the most part, ignored by the law. The distribution of copyrighted software however is, and will allways be, illegal!

There's supposed to be legal as backups but I doubt anyone actually uses them as backups.

yeah they are technically "illegal" but there really isnt a problem with it unless someone is selling them for profit or something stupid like that.

I like to play ROMs myself, but I never considered the thought of them being "illegal"
